Graduated! Gratitudinated…

you did it 2

Graduated…now what?

Do you have a son or a daughter that are about to graduate?

Are you about to graduate?

Yes, it must get quite scary…

Just recently my daughter Sarah graduated from the American University of Dubai. It was such an amazing experience, closing a four year cycle, opening a new door for her as this one closed.

I can imagine how anxious one might feel to leave the cocoon of the University to now be out there, knowing that it is now your turn to find a job and be useful to the society…

I want to share with you my message to my graduating daughter. And please do share with me your own experience around graduating…together we smile better.

Letter of a caring Mom

My lovely daughter Sarah…

Today you will be getting a title that says: graduated…

Four years of come and go, laugh and cry, yes and no...starting with your father’s intense certitude that providing you with such a document, you would be better equipped to lead an independent, sustainable life.

And he did all what was in his hands (and feet) to get this done.

Ahhhh… always being there, at every breath sending you blessings and love.

This represents also a great achievement or him as well, seen from his perspective. We cannot denie the incredible mentor he is to all of us.

From my side, I say:

“Do you need a paper that states that you are now ‘qualified to be hired’ so that you can serve society in exchange of remuneration?”

As much as this sacred paper (and I mean it since it represents so much of so much) is required in our times to start a professional career, I wonder if you are conscious that it  doesn’t only represent the “officialness” of you being now ‘certified to work’.

What does this diploma mean?

  • The efforts of teachers to pass knowledge to you
  • The efforts of the university owners (thank you Sheikh Mo and team) to put it together
  • The efforts of cleaners, cooks and workers to keep you going in a clean environment with spaces in which you could feed your body and keep on going
  • The hours and hours invested in researching, studying, worrying, sharing with your classmates and teachers
  • The efforts of your Mom and Dad to keep you on track
  • Etc etc etc

Today you graduate.

From university.

Now what?

You will keep on being Sarah, daughter of Ibrahim and Gloria, granddaughter of Antonio, Yousif, Gloria and Souad..

You will keep on being that little girl that always loved to eat, have fun, excel, give her best.

You will keep on being who you believe you are.

My question is:

Where did attending four years of classes and hoarding knowledge take you? What is the after-university-image of you that you have?

Who do you feel you are now, empowered with all the knowledge that you chose to grab during these last four years?

If you choose to fully remember just how amazing you and all of Source’s creatures are, then this new tool will be of great use for you to overcome the status quo formalities on your path to just being.

Remember and feel your grandpa Yousif say in all reliability:

“Would you sell one of your kids?” When he was suggested to sell his date farm because it was getting to be too much to handle.

Or your grandpa Antonio when he told me:

“Remember the three R’s” when he left me
In Switzerland at age 19:

  •    Respect
  •    Responsibility
  •    Resilience

Or your grandma Gloria when she said:

  • “Go into the fire and don’t get  burnt.”
  • “Your body is a temple “
  • “The single act that brings you closest to Source is the act of making love, because it brings life

Or your grandma Soad when all her kids, including your Dad, would fight for the honor of having her stay in their homes just to take care of her…

My message to you is:

See in this diploma something beyond a certificate that gives you “permission” to officially be certified to work.

Don’t fall in the trap of believing this document is all while doubting:

“ what? Will I be able to get a job?

We are all able of everything  and anything.

The question is:

Do you believe this? Do you just know so?

If the answer is no, there is a very good way to bring you back into track: gratitude.

Tap into the power of gratitude

  • Now you will be able to feel the greatness within you, within all of us.
  • Now, from this space of clarity, trust, faith, appreciation, you won’t need to “look for a job”…
  • The passion you will be living in realizing which are your talents and gifts, and declaring them through the silent voice of Source, that passion, will bring you that occupation which will eventually become your career; it will become your way of being creative in a sustainable manner,  so important for any Earthling on this planet.

Just be

Appreciate everything and anything around you. Celebrate. By being grateful, create the chemical balance in your brain required for your body to perform at its peak.

Now you will feel immense  gratitude towards that paper which represents team work. And thanking everyone, you will walk on your path, sharing as you walk, opening new doors as you close older ones, in full health, wealth and wellbeing, being an active, contagious agent of world peace.

Wa alhamdullilah…
